My two memorable games in DC Open 2005: 1. The match I enjoyed most: The snow created some absense, but it was a very good show-up. A lady from VA Beach who I have known for a number of years from badminton events asked me if my partner Quyen came. I told her she decided not to come. She said she was so "disappointed", apparantly looking forward to the match against the #1 seed. The gym was forced to close at 5:00 because of the snow. Some events including Mixed doubles were moved to Sunday. In the evening, snow calmed down, and Quyen wanted to go the next day. And indeed we met in the draw. They are good, and they looked very good. But unluckily for them, they caught me at a time I had plenty of energy to unleash my smashes with power... it was a good and enjoyable match. 2. The match I felt helpless: This is the first time I play singles in DC Open. I rarely play singles in tournaments. I was seeded #2 to my surprise. I reached final overcoming a tough match. In the final against this #1 seed, I scored the first point, but was not an easy point. During the match, my shots were pretty good, moving him well, but he kept returning the shuttle to me. He simply does not die! In the middle of the second game, I was extremely tired. The helpless feeling is like you are very tired, you know there is no way to beat your opponent on this particular day. How much fight I should put up at that point... but I refused to give him anything free. |
